Ferien Werder am Mühlenberg

Riverside stays between vineyard, gardens, and historic architecture

On the island of Werder, directly above the Havel, Ferien Werder am Mühlenberg is a quietly remarkable estate of old buildings, vineyard terraces, meadows, and water. With a small organic vineyard, shared gardens, a hidden bathing jetty, and a mix of listed and contemporary architecture, it offers a slower, more grounded kind of stay just outside Potsdam and Berlin.

Overview

Am Mühlenberg is the larger of Ferien Werder’s two properties and the one most deeply shaped by the meeting of architecture, landscape, and history. Set on the edge of Werder’s historic island, the estate stretches between vineyard slopes and the riverbank, with wide lawns, old trees, terraces, and open views across the Havel. It is a place that feels generous yet quiet, composed not as a hotel but as a lived environment with room to slow down and settle in.

The accommodations are spread across two historic buildings: the Remise and the Turmvilla. The Remise, a former 18th century invalid barracks with a neoclassical south façade, houses three distinct apartments: Remise EG, Remise Studio, and Remise Loft. The listed Turmvilla, an Art Deco villa originally built in the 1920s as a school retreat, contains Turmvilla EG, Turmvilla OG, and Turmstudio. Some apartments include fireplaces, balconies, or terraces, and larger groups can book the Remise or Turmvilla in full. Across all stays, interiors are intentionally restrained, allowing the architecture, natural materials, and surrounding greenery to take the lead.

What makes Am Mühlenberg especially memorable is the estate itself. Guests share access to the gardens, vineyard terraces, lawns, and a narrow jetty leading into the Havel. A small sauna sits close to the water, while the HAIN wine house includes a yoga and quiet room for moments of retreat. At the top of the slope, a restored Belvedere stands among around 800 organic vines, linking the present estate to Werder’s long wine-growing history. The atmosphere is one of openness and calm, where one can move easily between architecture, nature, and simple rituals of the day.

Life here follows the rhythm of the place rather than a schedule. Mornings begin with birdsong, coffee on a terrace, or a swim in the river. Afternoons invite reading on the lawn, cycling through the area, or exploring Werder’s old town with its cafés, cobbled lanes, and water views. Evenings might end with a glass of house wine, dinner outdoors, or a quiet sauna after sunset. Ferien Werder am Mühlenberg is not about spectacle. Its luxury lies in space, stillness, and the feeling of being gently folded into the landscape.
