Vipp Farmhouse

A restored 1775 Danish farmhouse on Lolland

Set within the vast agricultural landscape of the Søllestedgaard estate, Vipp Farmhouse is a quietly refined countryside retreat where Danish rural heritage and contemporary design meet with ease. Dating back to 1775, this former gardener’s residence has been thoughtfully reimagined as a modern guesthouse that honors its origins while embracing simplicity, comfort, and a slower rhythm of life shaped by nature, seasons, and food.

Overview

Vipp Farmhouse is located on the island of Lolland, an often-overlooked part of Denmark known for its fertile soil, open horizons, and understated beauty. The house sits within the historic Søllestedgaard estate, surrounded by forests, fields, and gardens that create a strong sense of continuity between land and architecture. Here, the countryside is not a backdrop but an active presence, shaping daily life through light, weather, and seasonal change.

The farmhouse itself retains the classic features of traditional Danish rural architecture, with whitewashed walls and a thatched roof that reflect its 18th-century origins. Inside, the space has been carefully curated to balance history with modern Scandinavian restraint. Pale tones, wooden details, curated art pieces, and tactile textiles create interiors that feel warm and lived-in rather than styled, allowing the building’s proportions and materials to speak for themselves.

Spanning 88 square meters, the farmhouse includes three double bedrooms, a shared bathroom, and an open kitchen and living area anchored by a fully equipped Vipp kitchen. One bedroom opens directly onto the garden terrace, while the others sit upstairs beneath sloping ceilings. The layout encourages shared moments, whether cooking together, gathering around the table, or settling in for long evenings by the fireplace.

Life at Vipp Farmhouse revolves around food, nature, and time. Guests are encouraged to cook using local and estate-grown produce, explore the surrounding land on foot or by bike, and experience Lolland’s emerging food scene. Without distractions or excess, the stay becomes an invitation to reconnect, not only with the place, but with the simple rituals of everyday life.

“Checking into this former gardener residence is like stepping back in time. While the architectural shell is a reminiscence from when it was built in 1775, the newly furnished interior brings us into the modern era of Scandinavian minimalism.”
