In the village of Femés, sunsets unfold slowly. The volcanic mountains turn deep bronze, the Atlantic catches the last light, and silence settles across the landscape. It is in this quiet corner of southern Lanzarote that La Casita de Femés was imagined by owner Inma Sicilia. Inspired by the island’s traditional architecture and its profound relationship with nature, she created a retreat that feels inseparable from its surroundings. Built with ecological materials and guided by Lanzarote’s vernacular design, the property is composed of two independent houses, Casa Diama and Casa Jable. Together they form an adults-only hideaway where travelers can experience the island’s elemental beauty through simplicity, privacy, and the slow rhythm of volcanic landscapes.

A LANZAROTE VILLA DESIGNED IN HARMONY WITH THE ISLAND

La Casita de Femés sits in the southern part of Lanzarote, surrounded by volcanic hills and wide open horizons that stretch toward the Atlantic Ocean. The architecture follows the island’s traditional Canarian principles: whitewashed surfaces, restrained lines, and a design language that respects the surrounding landscape rather than dominating it.

The property is divided into two independent residences. Casa Diama features three bedrooms and generous shared spaces, making it ideal for small groups or families traveling together. Casa Jable offers a more intimate setting with one bedroom, perfectly suited for couples seeking privacy and uninterrupted views.

Both houses combine simplicity with thoughtful comfort. Kitchens, living spaces, and terraces open toward the surrounding volcanic terrain, allowing guests to experience Lanzarote’s dramatic scenery from every corner of the property.

Rather than focusing on excess or spectacle, the design encourages a slower rhythm that reflects the island’s natural pace.

INSPIRED BY LANZAROTE’S ARCHITECTURAL AND CULTURAL IDENTITY

The inspiration for La Casita de Femés comes directly from Lanzarote itself. Owner Inma Sicilia envisioned a place that would honor the island’s architectural heritage while offering a contemporary retreat for travelers seeking authenticity.

For many years, she had been drawn to Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes and the simplicity of its traditional homes. These structures, shaped by centuries of adaptation to the environment, reflect a philosophy where architecture exists in dialogue with nature.

This approach was famously championed by artist and architect César Manrique, whose influence can still be felt throughout the island. His vision of harmony between architecture and landscape continues to guide many contemporary projects across Lanzarote.

La Casita de Femés follows that same philosophy. White surfaces contrast against dark volcanic earth, while natural light moves through open spaces designed to frame the surrounding mountains.

“I wanted to create a sustainable space where travelers could enjoy the calm and beauty of the surroundings without altering their spirit,” Inma explains.

The result is a villa that feels deeply connected to the island’s identity.

“What truly makes La Casita de Femés special is the experience of being in a place where time feels different. Sunsets here are intimate and unforgettable.”

A COLLECTIVE STORY SHAPED BY LOCAL CRAFT AND COMMUNITY

While La Casita de Femés began as a personal vision, its creation was shaped by the hands of many people connected to the island.

Local artisans played an essential role in bringing the project to life. Ecological materials sourced from Lanzarote were used throughout the construction, reinforcing the relationship between the architecture and its environment.

“This story has been shaped by many hands and hearts,” Inma says. “From local artisans to family and friends who supported every step of the process.”

Each detail reflects that collaborative effort. From handcrafted elements to the careful integration of natural materials, the property embodies the shared desire to preserve the character of Femés and its surrounding landscape.

This collective spirit gives La Casita de Femés a warmth that extends beyond its architecture.

DISCOVERING LANZAROTE THROUGH SLOW TRAVEL

Guests who arrive at La Casita de Femés are often travelers seeking a different way to experience Lanzarote. Rather than rushing between attractions, they come to immerse themselves in the island’s landscapes and cultural traditions.

The location provides easy access to many of Lanzarote’s most remarkable places. Timanfaya National Park reveals a dramatic volcanic terrain shaped by centuries of eruptions. Fundación César Manrique and Jameos del Agua offer insight into the island’s unique artistic and architectural heritage.

Local artisan markets, including the well known Sunday market in Teguise, provide opportunities to discover handmade crafts, regional gastronomy, and traditional products.

For coastal excursions, Playa del Papagayo lies just a short drive away, offering some of the island’s most beautiful beaches.

Yet many visitors find that the most memorable moments happen without leaving the property. Watching light move across the mountains, enjoying the quiet of the terrace, or simply observing the changing colors of the landscape at sunset.

At La Casita de Femés, the island reveals itself gradually. Not through spectacle, but through stillness, space, and the quiet beauty of Lanzarote’s volcanic world.

“Our guests are travelers who value the calm of a unique setting and the beauty of volcanic landscapes. They come here to experience Lanzarote beyond conventional tourism.”
