Abode by the Beach

A laid-back beachfront retreat

Perched directly above the Indian Ocean in Ahangama, Abode by the Beach is shaped by salt air, shifting light, and the steady rhythm of the sea. With just two ocean-facing suites and an open, beachfront restaurant, the experience centers on coastal living at its most elemental, where days unfold between water, food, and horizon.

Overview

Abode by the Beach is designed as a place to slow down and stay close to the elements. The two suites, The Rock Suite and The Beach Suite, are intentionally generous in scale, with terrazzo floors, king beds dressed in organic linen, and indoor-outdoor bathing experiences that echo the coastal setting. Views stretch across the water, inviting guests to live with the shifting light, tides, and weather.

The Beach Suite opens onto a balcony with an outdoor bath overlooking the Sion Surf Point cove, while the Rock Suite faces Devil’s Rock with a private terrace and enclosed glass shower. Both suites feature locally crafted teak furniture made from sustainably sourced wood, reinforcing Abode’s commitment to thoughtful, low impact design.

Dining is central to the experience. The oceanfront restaurant is led by Chef Jason Hudanish, whose menu draws inspiration from Sri Lanka’s coastline and seasons. Fresh seafood, locally sourced produce, and inventive techniques come together in dishes such as taraditos and poke bowls, while a creative cocktail program pushes boundaries with unexpected combinations shaped by the sea.

Life at Abode by the Beach unfolds between the water and the table. Days are spent surfing nearby breaks, swimming, or resting on sunbeds, while evenings gather around food, drinks, and sunsets. The atmosphere is relaxed, intimate, and quietly indulgent, offering a refined yet unpretentious way to experience Sri Lanka’s southern shore.
