Boulevard Leopold
An intimate boutique B&B in a historic Antwerp townhouse
Boulevard Leopold is not a place designed to impress at first glance. It reveals itself slowly. Set within a grand townhouse on one of Antwerp’s most elegant boulevards, this intimate bed and breakfast offers a stay defined by mood, history, and a sense of continuity rarely found in city accommodations today. Here, hospitality feels personal and unforced, shaped by a deep respect for the building itself and for the pace of life it naturally invites.

Overview
The house dates back to 1890 and has passed through remarkably few hands, a quiet testament to its enduring presence and character. Today, Boulevard Leopold is guided by host Martin Willems, whose approach is less about reinvention and more about listening. The house is allowed to speak through its proportions, light, and patina, and every decision follows its inherent rhythm rather than external expectations.
Interiors embrace what the owner describes as a sense of “forgotten glory.” This is not nostalgia, but continuity. Colors are rich and expressive, textures layered, and furnishings collected rather than curated. White minimalism has no place here. Instead, the spaces feel lived in, thoughtful, and deeply personal, as though the house has simply continued its life with guests rather than been transformed into a hotel.
Each of the five rooms and suites offers its own atmosphere and perspective, whether overlooking the garden or facing the boulevard. Generous in size and quietly comfortable, the rooms balance historic character with modern necessities, without allowing technology or convenience to overpower the soul of the space. The result is a stay that feels residential, intimate, and grounding.
Mornings begin slowly in the Orangerie, where breakfast is served with views of the garden. It is not a hurried affair, but an extension of the house’s rhythm. From here, Antwerp unfolds effortlessly. The Zurenborg neighborhood is a destination in itself, filled with architectural landmarks and local cafés, while the historic center, museums, and Central Station are all within easy reach. Boulevard Leopold is less a base for sightseeing and more a place to return to, again and again, throughout the day.

“The one rule I follow regarding the feel and objects in the house is to listen to the house and follow the atmosphere.”
— Martin Willems, Owner and Host
