Villa Hundert

A boutique alpine retreat in Engelberg

High above Engelberg, Villa Hundert calls itself a “Boutique Mountainscape.” It is not simply a hotel, nor only a restaurant. It is a holistic alpine retreat built around nature, food, wine, and heartfelt hosting. Surrounded by waterfalls, wild meadows, and snow-covered peaks, this is a place where time slows, flavors sharpen, and connection feels effortless.

Overview

Villa Hundert was created by three hosts united by a shared passion for mountains, food, wine, and bringing people together. What began as a search for a small, nature-driven restaurant evolved into a holistic alpine retreat with nine rooms, where every detail supports a slower rhythm and a deeper connection.

At the heart of the experience lies the kitchen. Each evening, a constantly changing surprise tasting menu reflects the surrounding landscape. Spring brings young forest shoots and alpine herbs. Summer celebrates wild plants and sweetness. Autumn turns earthy and smoky. Winter dives into fermentations, lake fish, and alpine meats. The wine list mirrors this philosophy, focusing on artisanal mountain producers whose bottles express place rather than prestige.

The design is Nordic in spirit. Wood, slate, and natural textures create warmth without excess. Panoramic balconies frame Mount Titlis. Wood-burning stoves add intimacy. The atmosphere is refined yet relaxed, what the hosts describe as luxury without fuss. Beauty through imperfection, shaped by authenticity rather than ornament.

Beyond the villa, Engelberg unfolds as an alpine playground in every season. Hiking trails begin steps from the door. In winter, freeride descents and ski touring define the days. In summer, mountain biking, climbing, alpine lakes, and cheese trails offer endless exploration. Guests may also privatize the entire villa for intimate gatherings, retreats, or celebrations, transforming the mountainscape into a private world.
